A Black && Gold Weekend | Pittsburgh, PA

A Weekender’s Guide to Pittsburgh, PA

My parents are originally from a town north of Pittsburgh so I was raised a Pittsburgh Sports Fan, (especially the Steelers) not an Atlanta Sports Fan. I grew up visiting my grandparents and other relatives in Pittsburgh and fell in love with the city at a young age. I most recently moved to Pittsburgh for the summer of 2018 to work for Heinz Field and the Steelers. I had the time of my life living in one of the greatest cities in America. It’s safe to say I bleed black & gold. Below is a list of some of my Pittsburgh favorites!

Brunch in Steel City:

Who doesn’t love breakfast? I literally can eat breakfast all day long so of course before I dive into everything I love and know about Pittsburgh I wanted to get your trip started with my personal Pittsburgh Breakfast and Brunch favorites.

Let’s brunch!

Lola’s Eatery: their menu is everything. Pictured below is the "HANGOVER-OVER CURE" and FRIENDS with BENEDICT which were both fabulous. Oh and of course a Nutella stuffed donut too. Their cold brew was delicious and free refills! Can I get an amen!?It is the perfect spot to have a coffee date or Sunday brunch with friends / family. 10/10 recommend this new spot in Pittsburgh.

Square Cafe: This small cafe was absolutely delicious. My good friend, Taylor, took me here and she knew it would be my favorite. The menu is huge, the atmosphere is cozy and it is always busy.

Smallman Galley: This is an area with multiple restaurants so you and your friends don’t necessarily have to pick the same restaurant but can still eat together.

The Vandal: I actually haven’t been here yet, but it’s first on my to do list next time I’m back. I’ve heard nothing but fabulous reviews so I wanted to add it to my list.

The Strip District:

Are you a foodie!? The Strip District is the place to be as it is essentially one big market! The strip is always popping on the weekends as tourists + locals are walking around enjoying all of the fresh markets & shopping!

Things to do:

Places to Eat:

  • Pamela’s Diner: this cinderella story-esque diner has the best diner food. There is always a line but it is worth the wait.

  • DeLuca’s Diner: If Pamela’s Diner is too busy try DeLuca’s Diner - chances are it too will have a line but pick a line, wait and thank me later ;)

  • DiAnoia’s Eatery: a little on the pricier side, however, everyone loves a splurge for mouth watering pasta! DiAnoia’s does not disappoint!

  • Peace Love and Little Donuts: the cutest and the most delicious mini donuts ever! AND you donut even feel like you’re eating as much since they are mini!

  • Smallman Galley: this is a food hall with multiple up and coming restraints that change in and out!

  • Primanti Bros: Did you even go to Pittsburgh if you didn’t try Primanti Bros? French fries + coleslaw + your choice of lunch meat all on a sandwich!! Delicious and SO Pittsburgh!

  • Klavon’s Ice Cream Parlor: you won’t want to miss this old fashioned ice cream parlor

Downtown / Cultural District:

Things to do:

  • Point State Park: the point where the three rivers meet can be seen up close at Point State Park water fountain!

  • Rent Bikes: rent a bike and ride along the River to Point State Park / across the bridges to the North Shore. There are so many places along the side of the roads that just require you to download an app and go from there!

  • Penguins Game (DUH): Go watch some good hockey and cheer on the Pens!

  • Walk across the Bridges: enjoy the views of the city from the bridges!

Places to Eat:

  • Proper: wood fired pizza, fresh pasta & local craft beers!

  • Sienna Mercado: “Italian with a twist” - the best kind of twist that is!

North Shore:

The North Shore is a happening place especially since it is where both Heinz Field (Steelers Stadium) and PNC Park (Pirates Stadium) is located.

Things to do:

  • Steelers Game or Pirates Game (DUH): ROOT FOR THE HOME (BEST) TEAM!

  • Cruise down the River in a Tiki Hut: yup..you heard me! Didn’t think the north could be tropical? You thought wrong!!

  • Andy Warhol Museum: Warhol fan? Check out his artwork at this unique museum!

  • Randyland: a quick drive from North Shore lies Pittsburgh most colorful public art!

Places to Eat:

  • Southern Tier Brewing Company: brews, burgers and besties! Grab your bestie, a killer veggie burger (or regular- I’ve had both) a good beer and get ready to cheer on the Pirates or Steelers!

  • Burgatory: I guess as the name suggests go here for a burger…..or go here for a burger AND a milkshake!!! There burgers were incredible but their milkshakes were one of a kind!

  • Steel Cactus: tacos + margaritas before a Pirates game? YES PLEASE. tacos + margaritas on taco Tuesday? YES PLEASE.

South Shore:

Things to do:

  • The Gateway Clipper: prefer to see the city from the river? The Gateway Clipper does all different types of sight seeing cruises.

  • The Duquesne Incline: the prettiest panorama view of the city of Pittsburgh. You can’t beat it!

  • Shop at Station Square: I don’t know about you, but I am always down to shop!

Places to Eat:

  • Vue 412: good food + good views, great decision

Go Steelers!
